First Minister Nicola Sturgeon’s speech at Georgetown University

“It is an absolute honour to be delivering this address and to be taking part in this discussion in these wonderful surroundings, in this beautiful and historic library. I could quite easily spend the rest of my trip to the United States here in this library alone, so if my team are listening, if you could rearrange the schedule to allow that to happen I would be immensely grateful. But it’s also an honour to be the first speaker in what I know you are describing as “Women World Leaders”…

James Hutton

James Hutton FRSE (3 June 1726 – 26 March 1797) was a Scottish geologist, physician, chemical manufacturer, naturalist, and experimental agriculturalist. Hutton’s work established geology as a science, and as a result he is referred to as the “Father of Modern Geology”. Through observation and carefully reasoned geological arguments, Hutton came to believe that the Earth was perpetually being formed; he recognised that the history…

Mexico 1-0 Scotland

BBC Scotland Report: Giovani dos Santos’ early goal was enough to ensure a victory for World Cup-bound Mexico as Scotland ended their Americas tour with two defeats. Dos Santos’ side-footed finish off the inside of a post came after only 13 minutes in the Estadio Azteca. Miguel Layun and Hirving Lozano both hit the woodwork for Mexico. Scotland’s Oli McBurnie did the same, but it was the hosts who dominated and Oribe Peralta also had the ball in the net but was flagged offside. Mexico improved on their midweek 0-0…
