The HTC One M8s is a halfway house between the One M8 and One M9.

The HTC One M9 has only just landed, and already there’s another HTC handset to choose from. The HTC One M8s takes last year’s flagship and gives it a minor refresh, with new cameras, a nippier processor and slightly bigger battery.

Instead of the UltraPixel rear snapper on the standard One M8, the M8s has a 13-megapixel shooter on the back, with the UltraPixel tech moved to the front-facer. Which should make for great low-light selfies.

It’s slightly faster too, with a 1.7GHz 615 octa-core chip , and the battery is a 2,840mAh jobby, instead of the 2,600mAh of its predecessor. Hence it should last a bit longer before needing a recharge.

So, slight improvements, but cosmetically the phone is the same. It has the same aluminium unibody – no bad thing, as the One M8 was one of the most dapper handsets of last year – and same 5-inch 1080p screen. You get Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box, so you won’t have to upgrade the software to get the latest features.

It runs HTC’s Sense 6 UI, instead of Sense 7 as seen on the One M9. You can’t have everything.

The One M8s goes on sale in early April for £379 SIM free.
